CHAMBER MUSIC DAY CAMP
The Summer Chamber Music Camp is a week-long day camp designed for young musicians to help them discover the pleasures of performing chamber music with other young musicians who have similar interests. Students who are rising 7th through 12th graders will have the opportunity to work with Millsaps College faculty members while enjoying the supportive atmosphere of group music-making as they attend classes, rehearsals, and informal noontime performances given by the camp faculty.
Chamber Music Coaching Sessions: Prior to camp, each student will be placed in one or more ensembles, according to his/her level of performance and study. Students will be mailed their ensemble music for study and preparation with their private teachers. During the camp, the faculty will work on this special material with each ensemble. Ensembles will also be given time to rehearse on their own and as a group during the week.

Music Theory and History Classes: Each day two hours will be devoted to providing the students with an essential understanding of music theory and history. These are introductory classes; no prior experience in the subjects is necessary.
Movement Sessions: In daily classes designed to integrate rhythmic and body awareness students will explore basic pop and classical dance styles such as the waltz, soft shoe, and boogie woogie.
Faculty Noon-time Recitals: Each day of camp, members of the faculty will present brief recitals or mini-lectures demonstrating their love of chamber music. Students will be able to observe up close the art and intimacy of musical dialogue in the chamber setting.

Special Performance Opportunity: To conclude the week, all student ensembles will present their work in an afternoon recital on Friday in the Millsaps Academic Complex Recital Hall. All parents, family, and friends are invited to attend!
Admission Requirements: All string, piano, and voice students who are rising 7th through 12th graders are invited to attend. Pianists and instrumentalists must have at least two years experience in private lessons, or instrumentalists must have at least three years experience in orchestra. For more information please contact Camp Director Dr. Rachel Heard.
