Mary Bolton
Head Coach
Third Season
After
joining the Majors' staff in August of 2006 and weathering
a tough first two seasons, McLain native Mary Bolton
returns
for a third year at the helm of the women's basketball
program in 2008-09 with a wealth of veteran presence and youthful
energy.
Bolton holds a 10-38 overall record with the Majors, including
a 7-18 mark last season, recording her first career win at home
on Nov. 18, 2006, a 78-55
victory
over
Rust.
Coming off an improvement of four wins, Bolton did not lose a single
senior from last year's team and returns four starters in addition
to
seven
new
freshmen.
In just her first season, Bolton's tutelage helped
sophomore LaReina Adams gain All-SCAC Honorable Mention recognition
after averaging 13.0 points and 10.8 rebounds per game.
Bolton is no stranger to the college courts, having served as an assistant
coach at the University of Southern Mississippi and Jones County Junior College.
She also acted as head coach at Perry Central High School.
The former mayor
of McLain from 2001-04, Bolton is a graduate of Nicholls State University
in Thibodaux, La., where she received her bachelor's in physical education
and participated as a women’s basketball student-athlete. She later
earned her master's degree from the University of Southern
Mississippi.
Coach Bolton’s two sisters, Ruthie and Mae Ola Bolton, are former
WNBA players. Ruthie Bolton is known for playing on two United States
Olympic
Women’s Basketball teams.
