ATLANTA, Ga. – The
pairing of juniors Tim Shoptaugh and Chris Rolen knocked off
Matt Howell/Mark Goodall, 8-0, at No. 3 doubles to set the tone
for the day and Millsaps won 5 of 6 singles matches
to defeat regionally-ranked No. 14 Piedmont 8-1 to open the spring
slate.
Millsaps swept all three doubles points
in impressive fashion, winning at the No. 1 spot, 8-4, behind
the pairing of Alex Cummings/Campbell Hughes, followed by an
8-2 win at the No. 2 spot behind Murphey Parker/Wes Hill.
Hill opened singles play with a quick
defeat of Howell in straight-sets, 6-0, 6-0, and paced the Majors
to three consecutive wins at No. 5, No. 6 and No. 3, to take
a comanding lead.
The Majors' only loss of the day came
at the No. 1 singles spot with 21st-ranked David Gillispie
defeating Parker in straight-sets, 6-1, 6-3. Shoptaugh also won
at No. 4 singles in a three-set match, as well as Cummings at
the No. 2 slot.
Millsaps dropped a match to 2nd-ranked
Emory University the following day by a 9-0 score.
