JACKSON – Ranked 24th in the country and No. 6 in
the region, the visiting Sewanee Lady Tigers shut out the Lady
Majors at Coach Montgomery Courts on Sunday, 9-0, after taking
a 3-0 lead
in doubles play and sweeping all six singles matches.
Sewanee's Shannon
Logsdon remained undefeated at 10-0 with a win
at No. 3 singles over Beth Sadler and newcomers Lindsay
Wilburn and Derry Roberson
earned 6-0, 6-0, shutouts over Millsaps' Mary Kate Rees and Mimi
Nguyen in their singles matches.
In a battle
of two of the region's Top 40 players, No. 8 Mary Katherine Stone
defeated No. 36 Allison Zakaras in straight-sets, 6-0, 6-1. Millsaps dropped to 2-2 on the year
and No. 24 Sewanee-U of the South improved to 5-0.
The Majors will close out an 8-game
homestand on Saturday, playing host to Itawamba CC and Centenary
College at 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. in Jackson. |
