Majors Earn No. 19 Ranking in Atlantic South Region
Millsaps to open spring play against Piedmont College on Feb. 8

November 6, 2007

SKILLMAN, N. J. –
After a successful fall outing in the NCAA Southern Regional Championships at Emory University in which the Millsaps women's tennis team won all its opening-round matches for the first time in the Scott Pennington era, the Majors earned a No. 19 ranking in the first Atlantic South Regional rankings as released by the ITA.

Millsaps will have the chance to play five teams ranked in the region this spring, including No. 2 Emory, No. 6 Sewanee, No. 8 Rhodes, No. 11 Christopher Newport and No. 17 Mississippi College, to improve on its regional status.

The Top 35 singles players were also released on Tuesday, with All-SCAC Honorable Mention and sophomore Allison Zakaras sliding in the final spot. Zakaras had a strong freshman year, posting a 10-5 record at the No. 1 and No. 2 positions.

The Majors' first event of the spring is scheduled for Feb. 8 against Piedmont College.
