JACKSON – In
an action packed day of volleyball in the Hangar Dome, the Millsaps
College volleyball team split two conference games against Sewanee
and DePauw.
In the 3-0
(25-7, 25-15, 25-8) victory over Sewanee, the team had a balanced
attack with three Majors having four kills apiece.
Starting off with senior Toni Manley who had four kills matched
by her four block assists. Sophomore Kate
Hall also had four to
go along with three service aces, and rounding the offense for
Millsaps was freshman Maggie
Tumminello who also notched four kills
to go along with six service aces. Sophomore setter Hailey
Miranda also had solid showing with 15 assists and seven digs.
Leading the way defensively for Millsaps was junior libero Dixie
Krauss who had nine digs. Also having a good game defensively was
Mallory Clark with her six digs.
In the nightcap,
the Majors fell to DePauw University in a four-set thriller
3-1 by scores of 25-19, 17-25, 22-25 and 24-26. Tumminello
led Millsaps with nine kills and nine digs in addition to Hall
who was right behind her teammate with eight kills.
Krauss notched 18 digs, while Miranda rounded things out with her
19 assists.
Tomorrow will
be another action packed day at the Hangar Dome as the SCAC Central/East
Cross Divisional winds up. Two games kick off the tournament
at 9 a.m. as Centre takes on Birmingham- Southern and Sewanee
takes on Hendrix. The Majors will be in action later in the day,
taking on Oglethorpe at 11 a.m.
