New Scholarships (for currently enrolled students)

Datatel Scholarships

As a Datatel Client, Millsaps is pleased to offer our students wonderful scholarship opportunities through the Datatel Scholars Foundation. These competitive scholarships are avilable for undergraduate and graduate students. Both full-time and part-time students may apply.

Applications must be completed online no later than January 31. Each applicant is required to submit two letters of recommendation from Millsaps faculty or staff; an official transcript(s) of grades with college or university seal; a personal statement essay reflecting the importance of the scholarship(s) for which they are applying (for students applying for more than one scholarship, write ONE essay that discusses the aspect of each scholarship applied for); and a list of achievements.

Millsaps will select semi-finalist applications in each category and make the nomination to the Datatel Scholars Foundation for consideration in the final competition. All applications are evaluated on a scale of 100%. Ratings are compiled according to the following:

  • 40% -- Quality of the Personal Statement essay
  • 30% -- Academic Merit (OFFICIAL transcripts)
  • 20% -- Achievements (Honors/Awards, Employment, Campus and/or Charitable organization participation, etc.)
  • 10% -- Two Letters of Recommendation (Must be Millsaps faculty and/or staff)

Datatel Scholars Foundation Scholarship (2 Millsaps semi-finalists)
Requirement: For any student currently enrolled at Millsaps.

Personal Statement Essay: The personal statement essay should summarize the educational goals, where the applicant has been as an individual, and where they hope their education will take them. Essay should also indicate the difference a Datatel Scholars Foundation scholarship would make in their life and to those around them.

Anglefire Scholarship (2 Millsaps semi-finalists)
Requirement: For any student who is currently enrolled at Millsaps, who is a Vietnam Veteran, or dependent of a Vietnam Veteran. Scholarships are also available for soldiers who served in Operation Desert Storm, Operation Enduring Freedom and/or Operation Iraqi Freedom.

Personal Statement Essay: The personal statement essay should discuss how the conflict has affected the applicant personally, summarize how the conflict has impacted their education goals, and describe how being awarded an Anglefire scholarship will help them achieve their goals.

Russ Griffith Memorial Scholarship (1 Millsaps semi-finalist)
Requirement: For any student currently enrolled at Millsaps, after experiencing a 5-year or longer absence.

Personal Statement Essay: The personal statement essay should discuss the impact of being a returning student, the challenges of combining life interests, such as work and family, along with school, and the importance of receiving this scholarship to help achieve a dream.

Nancy Goodhue-Lynch Scholarship (1 Millsaps semi-finalist)
Requirement: For any undergraduate student currently enrolled at Millsaps, who is majoring in an Information Technology curriculum program.

Personal Statement Essay: The personal statement essay should explain why the applicant chose to study an Information Technology curriculum program, the impact of technology on their future, and the importance of receiving the Nancy Goodhue-Lynch scholarship.


Other New Scholarships

USA Funds Access to Education Scholarships
The USA Funds Access to Education Scholarships program will award renewable scholarships to students with financial need. Plans are to award $3.2 million in new scholarships to full- and half-time undergraduate students and full-time graduate students. Full-time students are eligible for up to $1,500 awards, and half-time undergraduates may qualify for $750 awards. Up to 50 percent of the scholarships will be targeted to students who, in addition to demonstrating financial need, are members of an ethnic-minority group or are physically disabled.

AmeriCorps
All across the country, AmeriCorps members are tackling tough problems such as illiteracy, hunger and homelessness. These men and women, age 17 and older, dedicate a year to serve their communities - tutoring children, building homes, helping fight wildfires, and restoring national parks. In return, they get lots of benefits:

  • An education award for college, graduate school or vocational school, or to pay off student loans.
  • A modest living allowance and health insurance

The National Scholars Honor Society
The National Scholars Honor Society is an academic honors organization dedicated to actively encouraging, recognizing, and rewarding high academic achievement in all areas of study. The Society strives to reward and encourage personal growth and development, as well as engender a sense of civic responsibility and dedication to our great nation. Our members include thousands of America's brightest minds and top achievers in the Arts, the Sciences, Business, Medicine, Law, and olitics.

Talbots Women's Scholarship Fund
Five women will each be awarded $10,000 scholarships and 50 women will each be awarded $1,000 scholarships. All applicants must be seeking an undergraduate degree from an accredited two- or four-year college or university, or vocational technical school. Only applicants seeking a bachelor's degree from a four-year college or university are eligible to receive a $10,000 award.

Scholarship awards are based primarily on financial need and previous achievements for women who earned their high school diploma or GED at least 10 years ago.

American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA)
Competitive award of $2,500 scholarships for two outstanding AICPA student affiliate members pursuing studies in accounting, finance or information systems who, in the opinion of the Scholarship Selection Committee, show significant potential to become successful business people.
