Murrah
Hall
Murrah Hall, one
of the oldest buildings on campus, was built in 1914. After "Old
Main" (one of the College's original classroom and office buildings)
was destroyed in a fire, Murrah Hall was constructed in its place.
The structure underwent a $1.3 million renovation in 1981, and is
now the home of the Millsaps Else
School of Management. The Else School of Management is accredited
by the AACSB - The International Association
for Management Education (the same accrediting body that approves
business programs and curriculum at top-name colleges across the
nation). Only about 360 of the 1,400 business programs nationwide
are AASCB-accredited. In addition to offering a wide variety of
business courses both during the day and in the evenings, The Else
School gives Millsaps students the opportunity to study
abroad in Europe.
Murrah Hall also houses the modern language department
(Spanish, German, and French), offering language lab facilities
where students can view television programs from all over the world
via satellite, use computer tutorials to help them study, and listen
to pronunciation recordings. In addition, the modern language department
organizes summer study abroad programs for students interested in
learning more about French
and Spanish.
Murrah Hall also contains computer labs for student use,
an 80-seat lecture room, and several student study rooms.

Just outside of Murrah Hall sits the famous Millsaps
"M" Bench. In 1926 several Millsaps students
decided that there was a need for an area where students
could gather between their classes. To remedy the problem,
the classes of 1926, 1927, and 1928 held a conference.
The students decided to erect a bench, fashioned in
the shape of an "M" for Millsaps, outside
of Murrah Hall. It is now known to most students simply
as the "M" Bench, and professors often use
it as a warm-weather classroom. In addition to its practical
purposes, school legend has it that the first person
a Millsaps student kisses on the "M" Bench
is the person he/she will marry.
Murrah
Hall also boasts one final special feature: life-sized portraits
of past Millsaps Presidents. Click here
