Students
will also visit some of Italys finest museums in Rome including
the Vatican Museum and tour the necropolis (city of the dead) underneath
St. Peters Basilica while experiencing the richness of contemporary
Italian culture. Well stay in small, local bed and breakfasts
and dine in the trattorias of Rome to partake of Italy at its fullest!
The
Classical Studies Department is also a member of the Intercollegiate
Center for Classical Studies in Rome (ICCS Rome; the "Centro")
and regularly sends students there for a semester. The center offers
courses in Latin, Roman archaeology and history, Greek, Italian,
and Art History. Located in a lovely residential neighborhood in
Rome, close to the Classical and Renaissance center of this cosmopolitan
city, students make frequent site visits and have in-depth explorations
of museum collections, and schedule numerous trips, including two
extensive tours of Campania and Sicily.
