The Millsaps College Else School of Management will host a forum, “A Discussion of Universal Health Care” on Thursday, April 17, 2008 in the Leggett Center on the Millsaps Campus. Breakfast will be at 7:45 a.m., with the program beginning at 8:30 a.m. The key note speaker for this forum will be Dr. Stephanie Woolhandler, Associate Professor Medicine and co-Director of the General Internal Medicine Fellowship Program at Harvard University. In 1986, she co-founded Physicians for a National Health Program, which advocates a single-payer system of national health insurance for the United States. She has authored more than 50 research articles in major peer-reviewed journals on healthcare access and financing. She lives with her family in Cambridge, Massachusetts.
Following Dr. Woolhandler’s remarks, there will a panel discussion on the topic featuring Dr. Dan Jones, vice-chancellor for health affairs and dean of the School of Medicine at the University of Mississippi Medical Center; Kurt Metzner, President and CEO of Mississippi Health Systems; and Andy Taggart, legal and strategic counsel, and former chief of staff for Governor Kirk Fordice.
