Millsaps Remains in Top Tier of Colleges

For the sixth consecutive year Millsaps College has been placed in the top tier of liberal arts colleges in the nation by U.S. News & World Report's America's Best Liberal Arts Colleges.

U.S. News named Millsaps College the 84th Best Liberal Arts College based on assessment from peer institutions, retention of students, faculty resources, student selectivity, financial resources, alumni giving and graduation rate performance.

Recently, Millsaps College has been named to several prestigious lists including The Princeton Review's "The Best 368 Colleges" and The Chronicle of Higher Education's "Great Colleges to Work For." Other notable recognitions include being ranked No. 29 by the Centre for College Affordability & Productivity among all liberal arts colleges and universities and being named to the annual President's Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll.

"Millsaps continues to be known as an institution that challenges intellect and encourages character development in preparing our graduates for successful futures," said Frances Lucas. "This consistent recognition on national rankings is a confirmation of our student-centered approach to education."

"In the last decade we've worked hard to clarify expectations about performance and to provide the resources necessary to meet those expectations," said Dr. Richard A. Smith, senior vice president and dean of the college. "For example, we've worked to make the tenure review process more fair and transparent, and this recognition seems to validate that work."

The 2009 college rankings also named Millsaps College as one of 311 schools with "first rate programs" and "strong reputations" that consider students who are well-rounded rather than focusing primarily on grades. This quality, recognized by U.S. News, contributed to Millsaps being named one of Loren Pope's 40 "Colleges That Change Lives."
