History and Mission

1 Campus, 1 Community

The Millsaps 1 Campus, 1 Community program began in the fall of 2006 as a result of campus-wide discussions about the college's historic commitment to serve "the least, the lost, and the last." A group of people came together to dream about how to build upon a history of service activities to form long-term community partnerships. Two priority community partners were identified: the North Midtown neighborhood (our neighbors in proximity) and the K-12 education community (our neighbors in mission). In fall of 2009, the 1 Campus, 1 Community Center for Engaged Learning and Living (1C1C C.E.L.L.) was established.

The mission of the Millsaps 1 Campus, 1 Community program is to cultivate character education and community transformation by helping Millsaps students, faculty, and staff develop long-term relationships of mutual respect, service, and transformation with our neighbors in need, especially those in the North Midtown neighborhood and the K-12 education community.
